Teaching Philosophy:

All children are unique and come from a variety of backgrounds and developmental levels. I believe that they learn best when working with others, through observation, and by experiencing first-hand the whole domain of learning. When students use these methods to construct their knowledge, they are able to build upon their prior knowledge to make the material relevant and more meaningful to them. In addition, students will create real-world connections that foster independent thinking, contributing to their learning and educational growth.

I believe it is my responsibility to instill in children a passion for learning. In addition, it is important that I help each individual child reach their full academic potential. Incorporating student talents, interests, and abilities into my lessons will help to keep students actively engaged in the learning processes, allowing for greater retention of information and increased motivation for learning. By implementing strategies to build intrinsic motivation and adapting my teaching methods to incorportate various learning modalities, along with differentiated instruction, I am able to meet the needs of the students and cultivate their natural desire to learn.

Children need to feel safe and comfortable in order to increase learning opportunities. My classroom is well-disciplined with limits and controls. However, I also encourage independence and take into account student ideas and opinions. I also feel it is important to foster a sense of community within the classroom, so that children feel comfortable with myself and the other students. By creating a classroom culture in which children can grow, learn, and explore they will be more engaged in class and in their learning.
